Solid shampoo, what is it?

Revolutionizing the world of cosmetics, solid shampoo is a shampoo without its plastic packaging. Unlike liquid shampoo, which can only be contained in a bottle, organic solid shampoo is sold in a recyclable cardboard box, much like a bar of soap.

Unlike a traditional shampoo, solid shampoo is very compact and highly concentrated in active ingredients. Indeed, unlike liquid shampoo, it contains very little water and therefore, preservatives. Regarding its composition, solid shampoo is composed mainly of natural ingredients including oils like coconut oil or shea butter, plants or mineral powders like clay. The latter has particularly effective properties against oily hair or for the scalp. The other difference lies in the presence of surfactants whose results are proven on the shine of the hair, its lightness and on the health of the scalp.

Does solid shampoo damage hair?

Unlike traditional shampoos, solid shampoo doesn't damage hair. It doesn't contain chemical surfactants that create a lot of foam but weigh down the hair fiber, and contains non-aggressive natural active ingredients.

Natural surfactants are:

  • The SCI
  • The SCG certified COSMOS ORGANIC

The latter is also included in the composition of Terre de Mars products and in particular the Cosmos Organic solid shampoo.

What conditioner should I use after a solid shampoo?

Solid shampoo and conditioner do not fulfill the same function. Rather, they complement each other, with conditioner complementing the care provided by solid shampoo. The former cleanses and deeply purifies the hair, whether it's oily, dry, or normal. Conditioner, on the other hand, nourishes the hair, making it silkier and easier to detangle.

Just like with shampoos, it is essential to choose a conditioner with bioactive ingredients that are gentle on the hair and non-chemical. You can therefore choose a conditioner enriched with shea butter or in coconut oil. The non-chemical bioactives do not tighten the hair fibers and prevent them from becoming dry and brittle.

Solid conditioner is applied to the lengths and ends of your hair. Since it's a very nourishing product, you shouldn't apply it to your roots to avoid making them greasy, unless you have dry hair that will appreciate being well-nourished. Leave the conditioner on for just a few minutes before rinsing it thoroughly.

As for the frequency of use, it will depend on how often you wash your hair. So, if you wash your hair 2 to 3 times a week, you can use conditioner every time. On the other hand, if you wash your hair more regularly, limit the use of conditioner to 2 or 3 times a week.
